Peaches and grapefruit
It got up into the 90s the past few days, and I’m am more
grateful than I ever thought I’d be to have a job in an air-conditioned office.
Heat in the city seems much worse than heat in the mountains, because it feels
like every ray of sun just keeps bouncing off the pavement and the windows and
the walls, outside is like a microwave. Add in accentuated smells, of exhaust
and garbage and people, and top it all off with some humidity. Basically, it’s
been too miserable to even think about cooking.
But that’s not to say I haven’t been playing around with
flavors. I found a bottle of my favorite BOSC moscato, a ridiculously sweet,
peachy, rose-scented wine with just the right touch of effervescence, and
nursed it through one evening of unbearable heat in my un-conditioned
apartment. The next night I got a little more creative, with this little gem- I
imagine it would do well with a shot of peach vodka, or with a dry sparkling
wine in place of the seltzer.
